It’s the end of an era. Again.

Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion and widely regarded as the greatest quarterback in NFL history, has officially announced his retirement from professional football, for the second time in as many years. But this time, it sounds like it’s for good.

Brady shared the news today on social media, posting a short, heartfelt video from a beach somewhere warm and quiet, likely a sharp contrast to the stadiums he once lit up on Sundays.

“Good morning, guys. I’ll get to the point right away. I’m retiring for good. I know the process was a pretty big deal last time. So, when I woke up this morning, I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first so. I won’t be long-winded. You only get one super emotional retirement essay and I used mine up last year.

I really thank you guys so much to everyone single one of you for supporting me. My family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors… I can go on forever. There’s too many. Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream.

I wouldn’t change a thing.”

A Legendary Career Comes to a Close

Brady walks away from the game with a résumé that will likely never be matched:

  • 7 Super Bowl titles (6 with the Patriots, 1 with the Buccaneers)
  • 3x NFL MVP
  • 89,214 passing yardsMost in NFL history
  • 649 touchdown passesAnother all-time record
  • 5 Super Bowl MVP awards

Even in what would be his final season at age 45, Brady still passed for 4,694 yards and 25 touchdowns, numbers most QBs would kill for.

But despite the individual stats, the 2022 season was anything but magical for him. The Buccaneers struggled, Brady looked visibly frustrated, and his decision to unretire for one more run reportedly took a toll on his personal life, including his now-finalized divorce from Gisele Bündchen.

What’s Next for TB12?

Don’t expect Brady to disappear from the spotlight. He’s already lined up to be the lead NFL analyst for Fox Sports under a massive 10-year, $375 million contract. On top of that, he’s got plenty of business ventures to keep him busy:

  • Brady Brand apparel
  • TB12 Sports, his health and wellness empire
  • 199 Productions, his content and media company

Love him or hate him, there’s no denying Brady changed the game forever. From a sixth-round draft pick to the face of the NFL for two decades, his legacy is cemented in Canton.

As for what the future holds off the field? Well, let’s just say being rich, retired, and the most eligible QB bachelor on the planet doesn’t sound like a bad gig.

Thanks for the memories, GOAT.
