Gronk Tries His Luck At The Poker Table On PokerStars “Big Game on Tour”

PokerStars Big Game on Tour

When you’ve already won four Super Bowls and built a reputation as one of the most dominant tight ends in NFL history, what’s the next challenge? For Rob Gronkowski, apparently it’s high-stakes poker in Las Vegas.

The former Patriots and Buccaneers star recently made his high-stakes poker debut on the popular cash game show PokerStars The Big Game on Tour, going head-to-head with some of the biggest names in the poker world.

In the opening episode, which debuted on PokerStars’ YouTube channel, Gronk found himself sitting across the table from 17-time World Series of Poker champion Phil Hellmuth and high-stakes poker pro Antonio Esfandiari, along with sports broadcaster Nick Wright and rising poker talent Rania Nasreddine.

From Gridiron Battles to Poker Bluffs

Anyone who watched Gronk dominate linebackers and safeties during his NFL career knows the guy thrives on competition. Now he’s trying to bring that same mindset to the poker table — even if reading a bluff is a little different from reading a defense.

“I always wanted to be the best on the football field, I’ve got the competitive spirit and I want to win,” said Gronk. “I was a professional athlete so I’m trying to get into the professional ranks again and I’m gonna do here at this big poker game and I’m gonna take down the pros.”

Of course, Gronk being Gronk, the table wasn’t all serious business. The future Hall of Famer mixed in plenty of jokes and trademark energy while trying to keep a poker face and battle for pots worth thousands of dollars.

A Star-Studded Poker Table

The lineup Gronk joined included a mix of poker legends and well-known personalities:

  • Phil Hellmuth – 17-time World Series of Poker champion
  • Antonio Esfandiari – One of poker’s most recognizable high-stakes players
  • Rania Nasreddine – A rising star in the poker world
  • Nick Wright – Sports broadcaster and analyst
  • Luke Waekelin – A “Loose Cannon” qualifier who earned his seat online

The show blends professional poker players with celebrities and amateur qualifiers, creating a unique mix of skill, ego, and high-stakes drama.

Sports and Poker: A Natural Crossover

Gronk’s appearance highlights the growing connection between professional athletes and poker. Both games require a mix of psychology, risk-taking, and performing under pressure – skills Gronk clearly relied on throughout his NFL career.

Whether that translates into success at the poker table remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Gronk definitely brought some extra entertainment value to the game.

New episodes of PokerStars The Big Game on Tour will continue to roll out weekly on YouTube through early April.
