It’s the story of the day around the NFL, and it’s not even about an NFL player – not yet anyway.
Manti Te’o a 21-year-old LB from Notre Dame was expected to be a high draft pick in April, but there’s going to be a number of teams thinking twice after a story came out yesterday stating that his story about losing both his grandmother and girlfriend within hours of each other was a total FAKE!
Te’o’s grandmother did indeed die. His girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, never existed.
Notre Dame said Te’o was duped into an online relationship with a woman whose “death” from leukemia was faked by perpetrators of an elaborate hoax.
The goal of the scam wasn’t clear, though Notre Dame said it used an investigative firm to dig into the details after Te’o disclosed them three weeks ago.
Now comes the backlash, and the wonder around football is his NFL draft stock will be impacted by the fake story.
