Last season the National Football Conference came down to a disputed no-call in the NFC Title game in New Orleans between the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams that eventually led to the Rams getting to the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl LIII did not go the Rams way, as they managed just three points in an eventual 13-3 lackluster Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots.
This season if you use a PointsBet promo code you can put money on any team in the NFC, with the Rams and Saints being the two favorites in the NFC.
There’s a lot of other teams looking to make the jump to being a contender, and today we take a look at three that could be in the mix as a ‘surprise’ team in the NFC this season.
1. Detroit Lions
Last season in Matt Patrica’s first season as coach the Lions went 6-10. They struggled till the second half of the season on defense, and never got things going on offense.
New offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell has promised to run the football more in 2019, which puts more emphasis on the team’s offensive line and running backs.
A tough early schedule may see this team not start off very fast, but by midway through the season, this could be a team that makes some noise in the NFC North.
2. San Francisco 49’ers
This team had to play much of the season minus their starting quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo, and with that the team won just four games, losing 12.
If they can get a good season from Garoppolo, this team has what it takes to win 7-8 games, and make a serious push for a playoff spot in the NFC in terms of a possible wild card spot.
Look for their defense to be better, and their offense should take strides with Garoppolo showing off the skill set that made the Niners make a huge deal for him two years ago.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
A new attitude in Tampa with Bruce Arians running the show as head coach should give this band of pirates a lot more confidence as they take the field in 2019.
This team needs Jameis Winston to finally live up to the billing that he’s a franchise quarterback able to make plays like he has shown sparks of over his first few seasons.
They also need Arians to put life in a defense that had too many lapses and gave up too many points in critical stretches of games.
Look for Tampa to go from a five-win team to one that could win eight or nine and be in the wild card mix.
