With free agency set to start next week, the rumors of the Steelers dumping Antonio Brown are heating up, and it sounds more and more like AB better like silver and black.
It’s sounding from all sides that the one team that is set to make the Steelers the best offer for Brown is that of the Oakland Raiders, you know the same team that gave up pick 79 in last years’ NFL Draft for Steelers unhappy wide out Martavis Bryant.
Yes, it’s all about the Raiders at this point, even though NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported today that the Steelers are telling interested teams to make their best offer for Brown.
Other reports are out stating that teams like the Jets and Cardinals have decided against going after Brown, leaving Oakland and possibly the Tennessee Titans as really the only two teams left in the picture.
The Steelers appear to want to get this done, and fast. Yes moving Brown will cost the Steelers a $21 million dollar cap hit, but they feel they can offset that at this point and it’s obvious that this deal is going to get done.
Brown requested a trade last month following a 2018 season in which he had fights with fellow players and even head coach Mike Tomlin, and then met with team owner Art Rooney II in late February, saying afterward that both sides “agreed that it is time to move on.”
He did have a monster 2018 that the Steelers are going to have to figure out how to make up for, pulling in 104 catches for 1,297 yards and a league-leading 15 touchdowns.
Look for the Steelers to get back a first-round pick for AB, and now it will be Jon Gruden and Derek Carr having to put up with the ego and problems that come along with Brown.
