San Francisco 49ers Want to Keep Both Their Backup QB’s From 2018 on Their Roster

The 49ers are expected to give “serious consideration” to keeping both Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard behind starting quarterback Jimmy Garappolo in 2019 according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.

The 49ers may not want to give up on either player, especially with Garappolo coming back from an ACL tear, but the reality is very few teams can afford to keep more than two quarterbacks on their regular season roster.

Mullens and Beathard will likely compete throughout training camp for the right to back up Jimmy G. Mullens was the better player in 2018, but he hardly set the world ablaze after his stunning first start. Beathard has the better draft pedigree.
