Saints players are already reacting to the hiring of Rob Ryan as defensive coordinator and the response has been positive, Nakia Hogan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
“I think Rob Ryan is a real good hire for us,” linebacker Jonathan Vilma tweeted Saturday morning. “What do you guys think? Good or bad, and why.”
Cornerback Jabari Greer applauded the move to bring in Ryan, who’ll be tasked with trying to turn around a defense that ranked last in the NFL last season, while yielding the most yards in NFL history (7,042).
“I am excited to get to work with our new defensive coordinator,” Greer said. “We have a lot of work to do, but we also have the men with the desire to get it done.”
“The 3-4 is what I ran in college and it’s something similar to we ran with coach Gregg Williams,” Cameron Jordan said. Hopefully it won’t be that hard to transition from the 4-3 to the 3-4. It sounds like what I have been doing.
“It’s a blitzing, attacking system, which will be fun. I think it suits me. Without a doubt (Galette and Wilson) will be the most excited about the situation. As long as everybody is on the same page I can’t see why this wouldn’t be a great fit for us.”
