Fitz, who came to the team this offseason, beat out Josh Rosen, who the Dolphins dealt for from the Arizona Cardinals after he spent just one season in the desert.
The Miami Herald reported earlier Thursday that the fact that Rosen was not ruled out for the preseason finale was a sure sign that Fitz had won the job.
The Dolphins started Jake Rudock, but they needed to dress two quarterbacks in case Rudock got hurt, with Rosen being one of them.
