Patriots Voted for the Second Straight Year as the Most Hated Team in the NFL

It can’t come as a surprise to many, but for the second straight season, the New England Patriots are the most disliked team in the National Football League.

This according to a new poll taken last week and released Monday by Public Policy Polling.

While the Patriots are still the most disliked team in the league, that’s not turning away Vegas from thinking they are going to win the Super Bowl Sunday over the Falcons.

Places like Betfair NJ have them sitting solidly as three-point favorites, which won’t sit well with NFL fans that voted for the Patriots as the most hated team in the league.

In the poll, taken of 378 NFL fans representative of the US population, 21 percent of people disliked the Patriots — once again edging the Dallas Cowboys (19 percent).

The Cowboys seemed to be back in the national spotlight quite a bit this season, as they came out of nowhere to win the NFC East, and with quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott, the two led the way as Cowboys fans around the nation seemed to have a rebirth this season.

Of those polled, 42 percent said they feel negatively about the Patriots, compared to only 19 percent who said they think of their Super Bowl LI opponent Atlanta Falcons negatively.

As far as who those polled are rooting for to win the Super Bowl, 53 percent are pulling for the Falcons, 27 percent for the Patriots.

Usually success breeds not being liked, and if you count what the Patriots have been able to do in the Bill Belichick-Tom Brady era, there’s no doubt why fans are year after year putting them at the top of the list as the most hated.

They won three Super Bowls in the mid 2000’s, and then came back two seasons ago to beat the Seattle Seahawks in a barn burner of Super Bowl which came down to the wire.

There’s also been a lot of off the field issues with the Pats that don’t sit well with the fans, like the famous ‘Spygate’ a few years back, as well as ‘Deflategate,’ which led to QB Tom Brady having to sit the first four games of the season.

Even with that, the Pats success can’t be denied, as they still were the top seed in the AFC before beating Houston and Pittsburgh to reach the Super Bowl – again.

  1. The jealous can’t help themselves. The Patriots continue winning because they are smarter and this drives the opposition nuts. Go for it again Pats; kick their ass.
