Call it a marketing ploy, or call it desperation, but whatever the reason is, the New York Mets today made it official, they have inked former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow to a minor league contract.

The Mets put out a tweet announcing the deal, and stated that Tebow will participate in the teams Instructional League.
Tebow worked out for 28 major league organizations last month, and despite the 29-year-old not playing competitive baseball since high school, Tebow impressed some scouts with his raw power and bat speed during the workout.
Now he will get a chance to prove it with the Mets.
