Adam Gase has a new defensive coordinator for his new team the Jets, and it’s someone who comes to the team with plenty of history and baggage.
The team is wrapping up a deal with Gregg Williams, who just wrapped up a season as interim coach of the Cleveland Browns, leading the Browns to an impressive end of the year in which they finished 7-8-1 after starting the year 2-6-1 under Hue Jackson.
The Jets are finalizing a deal to hire Williams, according to the report, as he was believed to be picking between the Jets and Redskins.
Williams would be a somewhat controversial hire, considering his role in the Bountygate scandal with the Saints. He’s an aggressive, in-your-face coach who is known for his attacking style of defense. He served as the Browns’ interim head coach this past season and went 5-3 after the team went 2-5-1 with Hue Jackson.
Jets finalizing deal with former Browns’ interim HC Gregg Williams to become their defensive coordinator, per source. Williams was the defensive coordinator the Jets were targeting no matter who their HC was; they got their man.
