Jets With Interest In Saints RFA RB Chris Ivory

The Jets need a running back, and the Saints need draft picks.

With that there’s reports that the two teams are talking, as the Jets are interested in trading for Saints running back Chris Ivory, a restricted free agent who visited Friday with the Jets.

Ivory was the odd-man out in the Saints’ crowded backfield last season, but he still received a second-round tender, which would be a one-year, $2.023 million contract. If the Saints declined to match an offer sheet, they’d receive the Jets’ second-round pick (39th overall) as compensation.

The Jets have no intention of surrendering their second-round pick for a player who rushed for only 217 yards last season, but they’re willing to part with a late-round pick. The Saints are interested in trading Ivory, according to a source.

Ivory was the Saints’ leading rusher in 2010 with 716 yards, but he has been plagued by injuries and slipped to fourth on the depth chart, behind Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles. If the Saints retain Ivory, they could decide to cut ties with Thomas.

The Saints have only five draft choices — they were docked a second-rounder in the bounty scandal — and are looking to acquire more picks.
