Jets Sign WR Lucky Whitehead; Who Was Released From Dallas Despite Mistaken Identity

USA Today Sports

The Jets have claimed former Dallas Cowboys WR/KR Lucky Whitehead off waivers according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, and New Orleans Saints also showed interest in Whitehead. Gang Green is an excellent landing spot after his controversial exit in Dallas, where he was cut after a shoplifting arrest despite proof that it was a case of mistaken identity.

The Jets do not have a proven kick returner in camp and also have possibly the worst wide receiver corps in the NFL. Adding Whitehead to the mix as a low-risk veteran flyer seems to be a smart move as none of his $615,000 salary is guaranteed.
