Mark Sanchez may be the starting QB of the Jets once the 2013 season starts, but that’s only after he fights off some competition this summer.
Jets GM John Idzik stated at the Scouting Combine today that Sanchez will have other arms to deal with when he shows up for camp this year.
“I think everyone, Mark included, that he, our offense, our team as a whole needs to perform better than we did in 2012,” Idzik said. “We’re going to increase the competition so that he plays better,” Idzik said. “We’ve got a new offensive coordinator, a new quarterback coach. That will be healthy.”
The question will be – who would the Jets consider on bringing in to challenge Sanchez? While likely not a high profile name, there’s a chance they could spend a high draft pick on a QB.
It all points to an interesting summer for Sanchez and the Jets.
