Veteran quarterback Rex Grossman, a former first-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears, is in Atlanta Tuesday for a workout and physical with the Falcons, a source told Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com.
The Falcons are unsettled at the backup quarterback position behind Matt Ryan. Current backups T.J. Yates and Sean Renfree have been battling for the No. 2 role this preseason, but both have underwhelmed.
Grossman, who turned 35 on Sunday, has familiarity with the scheme. He played under Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in both Washington and last year for a short training camp stint with Cleveland. The Browns attempted to bring Grossman back during the regular season following injuries to Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel, but Grossman declined the invitation.
