Dolphins Owner Says Despite Interest In Buying AEG He Won’t Move Team
Dolphins fans have already started to push the panic button about their team, but according to owner Steve Ross, there’s nothing to worry about.
Ross is looking into a possible buy of AEG Facilities, which manages the proposed football stadium in Los Angeles, and some Dolphins fans feel it will open the door for Ross to move the team if public financing for Sun Life Stadium renovations aren’t approved.
Not gonna happen.
“I have no interest at all in moving the Dolphins,” Ross said in an e-mail. The bid, he said, is, “is strictly advancing our real estate, sports, entertainment and technology business.”
RSE Ventures, which Ross formed last year and bid on AEG, already has bought or created eight sports-related companies, according to CEO Matt Higgins. Rather than take away anything from South Florida, Higgins said Ross wants to use Sun Life Stadium as a, “place to incubate new innovation.”
One of the companies bought by RSE Ventures, Leap Seats, had its technology used at Dolphins games in December. Fans’ tickets were scanned upon entering the game. They were then offered a chance to upgrade their tickets, Higgins said.
