The Dolphins are cleaning house, and on Thursday, they have officially fired defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle after spending 4 years with the team. Replacing him will be former defensive backs coach Lou Anarumo.
Coyle’s defense has been on and off throughout his tenure. Heading into 2015, many predicted the Dolphins to have one of the league’s best defenses after signing Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ndamunkung Suh. However, Coyle’s defense has been underwhelming and many blame him for a unit that is ranked 30th overall in the league. The run defense, especially, has been awful and is ranked 32nd in the league. Players have reportedly complained about Coyle’s scheme being too complicated.
The Dolphins are currently 1-3, and cleaning house early may be the first step towards improving this team.
