Detroit Lions Place QB Jeff Driskel on Injured Reserve

The Lions already have lost starting quarterback Matthew Stafford with fractures in his back, and now his backup is also going to be lost as the team Saturday put backup Jeff Driskel on injured reserve.

The team did have Driskel as the backup in Thursday’s home loss on Thanksgiving to the Chicago Bears. He didn’t start due to what the team said was a hamstring injury.

David Blough will remain as the Lions starter until Stafford has sufficiently recovered from fractures in his back.

Driskel only averaged 6.5 yards per pass in his three starts but did show some juice as a scrambler, which should keep him in the backup mix for the next few seasons.

The Lions also signed QB Kyle Sloter off the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad. Sloter will backup Blough in Week 14.
