The Panthers will not join the ranks of teams looking for a new head coach, as Saturday the club made it official that Ron Rivera will return for a third season as head coach.

Rivera and Panthers owner Jerry Richardson met in the morning, according to The Associated Press.

The Panthers went from 2-14 in 2010 to 6-10 last season, The club was pretty bad though most of this season with high expectations, as they started the season 3-9, but four consecutive wins to end the season probably saved Rivera’s job.

If Rivera wants to stay the coach well into 2013, his first job will be to make sure Cam Newton plays more like he did in 2011.
