The Panthers fear that defensive tackle Dontari Poe tore his quad in Sunday’s last-minute loss to the New Orleans Saints according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
And so one of the worst run defenses in the NFL in 2019 is poised to get even worse. Carolina was already allowing 5.0 yards per carry and a league-high 19 touchdowns on the ground this year even with Poe in the lineup.
Originally the No.11-overall pick in the 2012 out of Memphis by the Kansas City Chiefs, Poe signed a three-year, $27 million contract to join the Panthers in March 2018. The move has worked out well for both parties as Poe has graded out as the third-best run stuffer in the league in 2019 according to Pro Football Focus.
Unless his MRI comes back positive, Poe’s 2019 campaign comes to a close with 15 tackles and four sacks.
