Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco should be able to return to the field in 2020 according to an ESPN report.
Flacco had stated at the end of the season that he was going to have an MRI on his injured neck to see if he could return, and from all indications he should be healthy enough to play again.
While Flacco may be healthy, if the Broncos want him back is another question. The team would have to absorb a huge cap hit if they keep him, as the veteran QB is set to make over $20 million in 2020, with a hit on the cap of $23.65 million.
The hit is even worse considering that Flacco is almost for sure going to enter 2020 as the backup to Drew Lock, who played well enough at the end of 2019 to earn the right to start 2020 as the starting quarterback.
The team would save just over $10 million if they release Flacco, a move that one would think they have to make to not handcuff themselves with such a huge cap number.
