Bengals WR A.J. Green Says He Wants a Long Term Deal or Out of Cincinnati

It’s been a long and frustrating season for the Bengals and wide out A.J. Green, and Wednesday it seemed that tempers finally boiled over.

The popular wide out, who hasn’t played a down this season due to injury, said on Wednesday that if the Bengals are not in a position to give him a multi-year deal that he wants out of Cincy.

“I’m not into a one-year,” Green said on Wednesday. “Give me a long-term (contract) or just let me go.”

It’s a tough spot to be in for Green, who is 32 and in the final season of a four-year deal that will see him collect a total of $60 million.

Green hasn’t played this season due to an ankle injury he suffered during the first practice of the preseason.

With the team moving forward with the benching of long time quarterback Andy Dalton on Tuesday, it looks like Zac Taylor and company are ready to cut ties with much of the past, and that could include Green.

The Bengals could wait out the situation and if they want Green for one season in 2020, they could simply franchise him.

If they do that, the wide out says he won’t hold out like some players have done in the past.

“That’s not me,” Green said. “I’m not giving free money away. I don’t care what that is.”

It’s easy for him to say that now, but with the way feelings already are quickly being hurt it feels like, he could always change his mind come next July when camp opens should he get socked with the tag.

For now since he’s still under team control, it is all on the team to figure out if he is worth another big offer, and if the Bengals are going to be the ones to give it to him.
