Bears Sign Martellus Bennett

The Chicago Bears will sign free agent TE Martellus Bennett tonight and he’s expected to be at Halas Hall this evening, NBC Sports is reporting. Bennett was considered mostly a disaster with the Dallas Cowboys, though it’s difficult as a tight end to get targeted by QB Tony Romo when your name’s not “Jason Witten“. Bennett just confirmed the signing, giving a shout-out to his friend WR Brandon Marshall: “I’m proud to say I’ll be joining my other brother @bmarshall next season. #BEARDOWN

UPDATE: Bennett has signed a 4-year contract.

As a New York Giant last year, Bennett had 55 receptions for 626 yards and 5 scores despite QB Eli Manning’s depleted arm strength. The Giants tried to resign him.
