The Chicago Bears will sign free agent TE Martellus Bennett tonight and he’s expected to be at Halas Hall this evening, NBC Sports is reporting. Bennett was considered mostly a disaster with the Dallas Cowboys, though it’s difficult as a tight end to get targeted by QB Tony Romo when your name’s not “Jason Witten“. Bennett just confirmed the signing, giving a shout-out to his friend WR Brandon Marshall: “I’m proud to say I’ll be joining my other brother @bmarshall next season.
UPDATE: Bennett has signed a 4-year contract.
As a New York Giant last year, Bennett had 55 receptions for 626 yards and 5 scores despite QB Eli Manning’s depleted arm strength. The Giants tried to resign him.
