When it comes to wanting a new deal from the Cowboys, wide out Amari Cooper is saying all the right things.
The star receiver spoke Friday at Cowboys camp, and was asked about the latest player to get a monster deal at the receiver spot, that being the Saints Michael Thomas.
Thomas got a five-year extension on his deal on Wednesday worth $100 million dollars, with $61 million guaranteed. Cooper is due up for a deal, but says right now he’s not worried about it.
“Yeah, I’m just not anxious about the contract,” Cooper said via ESPN.
“For some reason, it’s just not on my mind. I’m more interested in about just playing football.”
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said he didn’t see any difference so far in Cooper as he continues to stay focused on the task at hand for 2019.
“He wants to make sure he’s doing everything he can to get himself right to be the best player he can be,” Garrett said.
“Obviously, there’s a business side of football. We all understand that, but his focus is what he needs to do on the field to get better.
” think he’s embracing the opportunity to be with us through the offseason and through training camp to lay the foundation. Obviously, he was very impactful for us last year, but that was half a year coming midyear.”
Cooper was acquired from the Raiders in mid-season in 2018, and in nine games pulled in 53 passes for 725 yards and six touchdowns.
