This is the biggest time of year for advertisers. It’s time to pretend your ad got rejected for publicity’s sake. It’s time to pool 2/3rds of your ad-buying budget into one ad airing once or twice in one big game. It’s Super Bowl XLVII. Companies have spent around $3.7 million to $3.8 million for each 30-second spot.
There shall be 30 advertisers and 15 of them are already previewing their ads. At least 15 of them will have hashtags in the commercials to get people tweeting about them.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who played at University of Miami with Ravens LB Ray Lewis, will make four appearances during the NFL’s championship telecast.
“Gangnam Style”‘s Psy is featured in a Wonderful Pistachios ad.
Samsung has plans to debut an ad featuring actors Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and Bob Odenkirk (with a cameo from a great basketball player).
Watch for Kia’s “Space Babies” ad based in fictional Infantlandlia. They also have plans for a Fox College Football play-by-play guy Gus Johnson ad.
Subway’s ad is a “thank you” to Jared, to celebrate 15 years since he unveiled the Subway Diet. This ad will feature Robert Griffin III. Other Subway spokespeople include Laila Ali, Brian Baumgartner, Carl Edwards, Jay Glazer, Blake Griffin, Mike Lee, and Apolo Ohno.
The less said about Mio’s Tracy Morgan ad and Mercedes-Benz’s Kate Upton ad the better. Both companies are assuaging the creative route, and using their $4 million ad space for shock value and poor taste.
Toyota will feature Kaley Cuoco from CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory” in an ad fulfilling wishes. A photo will be displayed of an Instagram user who won a Toyota contest.
Ford’s Lincoln ad allowed Twitter users to #steerthescript, and it includes Jimmy Fallon, “Star Trek: The Next Generation”‘s Wil Wheaton and Rev Run from Run DMC.
Audi allowed viewers to pick the ending to their Super Bowl ad.
Movies will have a presence. Here’s the list of movies with ads for the Super Bowl.
*Chris Pine in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness
A trailer for the movie, NOT completely the same as what will be broadcast tonight:
*Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp in Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger
*Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in Snitch
*Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Vin Diesel, and Paul Walker in Fast Six (sequel to The Fast and the Furious)
*Brad Pitt in World War Z
Surprisingly, there will be no ad for:
*Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon and Amy Adams in Man of Steel
In 50 markets, American Family Insurance will air an ad featuring Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, 2012 American Idol winner Phillip Phillips, pro-golf veteran Steve Strickler and 2010 Winter Olympics hockey silver-medalist Jessie Vetter.
HALFTIME SHOW RUMORS
Beyonce is performing the halftime show, and it’s been rumored that Destiny’s Child will be joining her. Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake are going to be at the game, and there was a rehearsal card for keytar. Now, Prince plays the keytar, but he is reclusive. So, if that keytar is being performed by someone famous, it would be Lady GaGa. GaGa has a show today in St. Louis, an off date Super Bowl Sunday, and she may feature Beyonce on her new album“ArtPop” (they’ve teamed up before).
Here’s a video for a song that should be played at this event but won’t be:
