Reports are coming in this morning that Redskins outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan, their first round pick in the 2011 draft from Purdue University, has been named the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Month for September.
From Pro Football Talk:
The NFL defensive rookie of the month is Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan.
The 16th overall pick in the draft, Kerrigan has 13 tackles, five quarterback pressures, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, two passes defensed, and an interception that he returned for a touchdown.
Even after missing a week’s worth of practices during the lockout-related abbreviated training camp, Kerrigan has been very impressive so far. His pass deflection and “pick six” against the New York Giants could be argued as one of the most pivotal plays for this young season, to date. Kerrigan also had a half sack and another pass deflection against Arizona, helping secure the Redskins second victory.
