Highest Paid Safety In NFL History
Eric Weddle getting paid like he’s Ronnie Lott, no less, Rodney Harrison?
Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune has reported that Weddle has re-signed with the San Diego Chargers. And from this tweet sent out by David Canter, Weddle’s agent, the club went all out for him:
Congratulations to DEC MANAGEMENT client Eric Weddle on becoming the highest paid safety in NFL history. San Diego Super Chargers
Acee also has reported that it’s a five-year deal worth $40 millionĀ and $19 million in guaranteed cash.
The Chargers traveled north 22 spots in the second round with the Chicago Bears for the right to select Weddle 38th overall in the 2007 draft.
The former Utah Ute generated interest from the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys.
Troy Polamalu is smiling somewhere, as he’s next in line to get paid as a top safety, with his contract up after this season.
