I found this interesting article at Pro Football Talk.
Joe Flacco’s criticism of Jim Zorn’s firing hasn’t stopped Ravens brass from strongly pumping up their quarterback of late.
John Harbaugh said last week Flacco would win championships and was one of the best third-year quarterbacks in the history of the NFL. On Monday, Ravens director of player personnel Eric DeCosta said Flacco is probably a top-ten quarterback.
“I saw Matt Cassel play against the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs. He was a Pro Bowl quarterback,” Decosta said 105.7 The Fan with Ed Norris and Steve Davis. “And who would you rather have: Joe Flacco or Matt Cassel? [Cassel is] making $60 million this year.”
With Flacco heading into his fourth season as the Ravens Quarterback it seems that the Ravens brass and the fans are judging their signal caller differently.
If I made a list of the best quarterbacks in the NFL right now I would start with Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Phillip Rivers, and Aaron Rodgers. After that the list gets muddled.
Tony Romo, Michael Vick, Eli Manning, Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub, and Matt Cassel come to mind. Flacco at least statistically is in that tier of players. So maybe DeCosta’s assertion is plausible.
