New Broncos coach John Fox could have his eyes on one of his old players in Carolina – that being running back DeAngelo Williams. After an injury filled 2010, Williams is set to hit the free agent market and Fox and the Broncos could be at the top of the list for his services in 2011 and beyond.
The Carolina Panthers didn’t place their franchise tag on DeAngelo Williams, which means the fifth-year tailback likely will become an unrestricted free agent once a new collective bargaining agreement is finalized. And if Williams is a free agent, wouldn’t the only NFL head coach he has played for be interested? John Fox, now with the Broncos, coached Williams at Carolina. Williams rushed for 1,515 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2008 and ran for 1,117 yards in 2009. He missed most of last season because of injuries, finishing with 361 yards in six games. He has an NFL career average of 5.0 yards per carry.
