The Dallas Cowboys obviously value linebacker DeMarcus Ware. So much so that they, like the Godfather, made him an offer that he simply could not refuse. Team owner Jerry Jones said that he has reached agreement with Ware on a six-year contract extension.

The extension would keep Ware in a Dallas Cowboys uniform through the 2015 season; terms of the deal indicate a value of $78 million, an average of $13 million – $40 million of the total in guaranteed money. The transaction paperwork was signed on Monday and the extension was announced.

Ware, in the final year of his current contract, has 57 1/2 career sacks in 70 games. I, for one, do not claim to be a economics major; however, whether a linebacker of Ware’s skills is worth $13 million annually is debatable, at best. but then again, I can’t accuse Jones of being a cheapskate.
