Now this was the New England Patriots team that Pats fans had wanted to see since week one of the 2009 NFL campaign. After falling behind by a field goal to the Atlanta Falcons early in the first quarter New England had tied the game by the end of the period and never trailed again in the contest. The Patriots had a 3 point lead at the half and just dominated the last two quarters leading to a 26-10 victory over Atlanta at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.

New England QB Tom Brady looked like he had pre-injury completing 25/42 pass attempts for 277 yards including 1 touchdowns and no costly interceptions. Brady put the game away in the fourth quarter as he hit tight-end Chris Baker with a 36 yard touchdown pass. The other Patriots touchdown came via the running game in the second quarter as Fred Taylor ran the ball in 8 yards to give New England their first lead of the contest.

The Falcons a team that came into this game with a 2-0 record in the young NFL season would do all their scoring in the first half as quarterback Matt Ryan never really seemed to get his game in sync. Ryan did not have a bad game however his numbers were certainly not great as he completed 17/28 pass attempts for 199 yards without throwing a touchdown or an interception. Atlanta got their only touchdown on the ground as running-back Mike Turner ran the ball in with 8:48 to play in the second quarter which tied the game at 10-10. Those would be the final points of the afternoon for the Falcons.

Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski probably does not get anywhere the recognition or the credit that he deserves. The kicker is not a glamorous position in the NFL; there are many who barely consider the kicker a true part of the team. One would doubt that those feelings would be directed at Gostkowski by the rest of his teammates on the New England Roster. Gostkowski missed his first attempt of the campaign against the Bills during the NFL season opener on the Monday night game. He has been flawless since and accounted for 12 of the Pats 26 points against the Falcons in the win on Sunday.

The win for the Patriots now gives them a 2-0 record for the season and keeps them 1 game behind the New York Jets who defeated Tennessee Sunday. New England will remain at Gillette Stadium next Sunday as they play host to the Baltimore Ravens. Atlanta suffered their first loss of the season against the Patriots leaving them also with a record of 2-1. They will have an extra week to dwell on the loss as the Falcons have their Bye Week next weekend.
