He didn’t have to do all that much, and when it comes to Brett Favre and the Vikings, that’s going to be a winning formula in the 2009 season. Favre’s numbers were nothing short of – light – in Sunday’s 34-20 win in Cleveland. The best play call all day for Minnesota was Peterson right, Peterson left, Peterson up the middle.
By the fourth quarter when Peterson broke a 64-yard run, it was not much of a surprise. As for Favre, he was right on target by not making a mistake that would have put the Vikings in a bad position. Even when the team was down 13-10 at the half, you felt that things for Minnesota was well under control, and they were.
So the old vet and the superstar running back combined for 290 yards, and a defense that was expected to stop the plodding Browns did just that. Call it mission accomplished round one for Favre and the Vikings – and a winning formula that can lead them a long way in 2009.
