The Broncos have finally made a decision on troubled wide receiver Brandon Marshall, as he has been suspended by the club for “conduct detrimental to the club,” the team said Friday. The length of the suspension was not announced though Marshall was not expected to play in the Broncos’ next pre-season game Sunday against the Bears. Marshall was a Pro Bowl receiver last season for the Broncos, catching 104 passes for 1,265 yards and six touchdowns.
“This morning we made the decision as an organization to go ahead and suspend Brandon,” Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said at an 11 a.m. news conference. “That suspension would last through September 5th. We look forward to having him back here September 6th as we begin our preparations for Cincinnati.”
Marshall caught 206 passes the past two seasons for the Broncos, enough production for him to request a contract extension that has one year and $2.198 million remaining. He has twice requested a trade. McDaniels said the Broncos would be ready for their season opener whether Marshall is on the field or not.
“We have good receivers here with or without him,” McDaniels said.
