Agent for Browns KR/WR Cribbs and Team to Talk This Week About His Contract

An ongoing saga this offseason for the Browns has been the status of kick returner/wide receiver Josh Cribbs, who has been unhappy with his contract and wants a new deal. Cribbs stated that the old regime of Phil Savage and Romeo Crennel promised him a new deal, but the new look Browns said that promise is null and void.

Then there was the question of if Cribbs would live up to his current deal and show up to training camp at the end of the month. That question appears to be a “yes,” as Cribbs now says he’ll play ball and do what it takes, and the Browns are playing ball back.

The Plain Dealer reports that Cribbs and the Browns brass are going to sit down and talk about his current deal, and see if they can come to terms that would suite both sides. Cribbs has four years left on a six-year, $6.7 million deal that included $2 million in guaranteed money.

One guy that Cribbs wants to be compared to in terms of contract is that of Bears all-purpose threat Devin Hester, who last season got a four-year, $40 million contract that includes $15 million in guaranteed money.

The Browns need Cribbs, and while he has little to no leverage with the length of his current deal, he and the team would like to quickly and without much more fanfare get something done to make both sides happy and content.
