For the second straight year the Arizona Cardinals have franchised their star linebacker, Karlos Dansby, after the two sides failed to reach a long-term contract extension after the Wednesday deadline.

This means that Dansby will make around $9.7 million, which is typically the average salary of the top five players at that particular position, but since this is his second year being franchised, his salary goes up 20 percent.

According to the Associated Press, Dansby said he still wants to work out a long-term deal because he wants to stay in Arizona.

“I’m kind of disappointed we couldn’t come to an agreement. The Cardinals had a business decision to make and they made it and we’ll have to live with it,” said Dansby.

Last season Dansby lead the Cardinals in tackles with 119, to go along with four sacks and two interceptions.

With the franchise tag on Dansby, next on the Cardinals list is disgruntled receiver Anquan Boldin, who is seeking a new contract.
