Once a Steeler, always a Steeler. That seems to be the thinking of one of the greatest cornerbacks of all-time, as Rod Woodson will be getting his ultimate reward this summer -a bust in Canton, OH in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Woodson spoke to KNBR in San Francisco, and says that if he had to choose a team to go into the Hall with, he’d go in as a member of the black and gold.
“If you’re a Steeler – once a Steeler, always a Steeler. I mean the Steelers faithful travel extremely well,” Woodson said in the interview. “But as an individual, if they made me choose a team going in to the Hall of Fame, I would have chosen the Pittsburgh Steelers, but as a whole, I have to thank every single team that I played with.”
“I enjoyed the ten years that I had with the Steelers, it was remarkable, it was my start, but it wasn’t my finish. I think the vast majority of the body of work was done in Pittsburgh but the four years I spent in Baltimore, I got the ring, I transitioned positions in Baltimore, met a lot of great individual players, have a lot of great friendships from there. Same thing with the 49ers and same thing with the Raiders, so you know, it’s kind of hard. I’m a bi-racial person in life, I’m a mixed race, and I’m a mutt in football. I played on multiple teams and it was fun.”
Woodson was always a great player on and off the field, and despite the fact he wrapped up his career with other teams, it’s a class act to see him appreciate the team that he spent the biggest part of his career with.

I’m glad Rod feels the way he does about the Steelers. I was sad when he left the Steelers, but glad he had continued success with other teams. He was definitely one of my favorite players and had some of his greatest years with the Black & Gold. He is a class act and is very deserving of the upcoming HOF honor. Thanks for your contributions to the game, Rod!
Rod will have a massive turnout of Steeler fans following him to Canton.
Rest assured, it will be a great day for Steeler fans as yet another Steeler player will forever be enshrined as an all time great.
