"The question will be - is anyone out there really interested in spending the type of money Peppers wants on the DE?" Duh yes! 2."If the Panthers had gotten a solid offer for Peppers, wouldn’t they have moved him at some point before the draft?" Julius Peppers did not sign his franchise tender offer from the Panthers until last week. The Panthers were not allowed to talk to any other team about trading Peppers becuase the Panthers did not have any contract with Peppers. The only person that could talk about a trade for Peppers was his agent or Peppers. New England's coach came out before the draft and told Peppers if he wanted a trade he needed to sign his franchise tender, because NFL teams are not going to negotiate a trade for a player through an agent. They want to make their deals directly with the NFL team they are acquiring the player from and not the player's agent. 3. "Sounds like Peppers and the Panthers might be the best, and only match for each other." Yeah if you don't count the other 20 or 30 NFL teams that would like to have Julius Peppers on their team. 4. "Even if the Panthers had visions of moving Peppers, they for whatever reason didn’t find what they wanted on the market." See comments on item 2. above!! 5. "For Peppers, the best chance for big money is probably to stay put and play with a team that has the makings of being a playoff team again in 2009." The best chance for Peppers to make big money is to sign any contract that comes along in the next six months. Peppers already has a franchised tender offer of $16,700,000 to $19,000,000 with bonuses for one year's worth of NFL football. I would say that is a pretty good chance of making big money. The only reason Peppers would sign a long term contract with anyone would be to get a Haynesworth type of contract where Peppers would get $40,000,000+ in guaranteed money even if he got injured before the contract expires. Peppers will get that contract and he will get it before the NFL cutoff date of July 15, 2009. The Panthers can't live with a $16.7 million dollar cap hit in 2009, either they will sign him or trade him before the cutoff date.
