Scouring the internet for interesting news on the NFL is like a part-time job for any fan right now. Unfortunately, if you’re not entirely interested in Michael Vick or Brett Favre, (even Vikings fans are groaning) there isn’t a whole lot in the way of captivating information.

But in a constant effort to make the NFL a year-round obsession, the sports news sites are doing every ranking they can think of. From power rankings to best backfields to best off seasons, the internet is chalk full of rankings. Below are the list of the new rankings out now.

SI.com’s John Mullins has ranked Da Bears the 9th best backfield. He also ranked The Packers #8… which I have more than one problem with.

NFL.com’s Pat Kirwan has us ranked #13. I hate these Power Rankings, there’s so much chalk on this list it’s sad. I think the Saints are the only team he picks to make a move upward. Other than that…the top ten is every expected team out there in order.

ESPN has it’s own power rankings. The good news is the Chicago Bears are the highest of the NFC North, the bad news is they are ranked 12th. 12th is the lowest among all of the division leaders. If someone can explain to me how any NFC West team is better than the Bears right now, please explain. If you seem to remember, although they made the Super Bowl, The Cardinals had the same record as the Bears and lost both of it’s coordinators this offseason.

CBS Sports is even worse with it’s PRs having us at 14th. But still better than any other NFC North team. The Texans and Saints are ranked higher than us.

Beyond rankings, there is not a lot going on. But some news has trickled in here and there.

First Roderick Hood, the former Eagle and Cardinal free agent visited The Chicago Bears but left without signing a contract. He has now signed with The Cleveland Browns. Although I don’t think that corner is a huge need for the Bears, Hood is a quality CB and would have provided veteran depth.

Pisa Tinoisamoa was also rumored to come in and visit Halas Hall. Pisa was the Ram’s leading tackler last year and is known for have a small frame and a giant heart. Sounds like a Bear to me. He has yet to sign with anyone.

“The Williams Wall” of the Vikings are in a legal battle over their four game suspensions. From the articles I read, it sounds as if they are going to lose and have to serve their sentence. Luckily for them, the Vikings have the easiest of their schedule in the first four games.
