Throwing Out Some Redskins Preseason Predictions
Posted by Eric Lawson under Washington Redskins

Oh the vast emptiness and boringness of the NFL off-season. It’s especially excruciating if any of the non-happenings don’t pertain to your favorite team.
For me, it doesn’t matter if the Brett Favre comes back. I’m not concerned with where Plaxico ends up or How many people attended Tom Brady’s wedding. As a Redskins fanatic, I truly can not find the point of interest in any of those stories.
Besides watching old highlights from previous seasons over and over and over again, there is one key to passing the time and maintaining a high level of attention to the NFL: making predictions. Let me clarify, realistic predictions.
The most realistic prediction a Redskin fan can boast this off-season is the high possibility of Brian Orakpo winning Defensive Rookie of the Year. The argument is as follows.
Washington’s interior defensive line is now anchored by 6’6 320 pound Albert Haynesworth. His disruptiveness up the middle will be putting Orakpo in one-on-one situations numerous times throughout a game.
If he performs up to the expectations that come with being drafted in the first round, he should be running past linemen all day long (hopefully gaining notoriety for numerous sacks and tackles for losses).
DeAngelo Hall and an improving Carlos Rogers jamming receivers off the line only to be assisted over the top by Laron Landry and Chris Horton (assuming he wins the starting Strong Safety position) spells coverage sacks. If all goes smoothly, the pieces are in place for BrianOrakpo to do more than contend for the prize.
Now this wasn’t my only prediction. It may have been my only realistic prediction but not my only one none the less. I have a $20 bet marinating inLas Vegas saying the ‘Skins will be playing in the next Super Bowl. No one on planet Earth can change my view on Clinton Portis taking the rushing record this year and league MVP can be given to one man, Shaun Suisham Jason Campbell.

Oh, yeah, the optimism at this time of year is high for NFL fans. I agree about Orakpo: it seems like a realistic prediction for him to have a great year, especially next to Haynesworth.
you’re a dope! the redskins will finish last in NFC East…Super Bowl lol….what a moron !!
I wish I could share your optimism man. But I just can’t.
I highly doubt
Dana StubblefieldAlbert Haynesworth will be as disruptive as he was in Tennessee. He is a beast who, when he wants to be (and that is the key), is the best DT in the NFL. But unfortunately, he has only proven to do this during his contract years. I don’t see him being motivated to do that again. The defense still has problems at cornerback. Rogers is good, but I question DeAngelo Hall’s motivation as I do Albert Haynesworth. I also think Fred Smoot is overrated. Maybe Kevin Barnes will step up.
The defense isn’t the problem though. The defense HASN’T been a problem the last 6 years. The offense is ATROCIOUS and will be EVEN WORSE this year. If you watched ANY of the final 8 games one thing stuck out: the porous Offensive line. I didn’t panic because I just assumed it would be addressed in the offseason. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Derrick Dockery should help a bit. But Mike Williams is a joke; he’ll be cut in training camp. All this is made worse by the fact that we let Jason Brown go to the Rams and Jason Peters go to the (vomit) Eagles.
The receivers still suck. Sure Moss is good every now and then, but he is inconsistant. Randle El is a waste of space both as a receiver and punt returner. And after that is a bunch of amateur level guys.
I’m sorry, it won’t matter what Jason Campbell does this year. You can’t throw when you’re on your back with receivers who don’t get open.
4-12 if Haynesworth proves to be Stubby II
7-9 if he is a beast
