Time for Buss to Leave the Station!

If we are to believe the ESPN report that Brett Favre is seeking advice and is contemplating surgery to repair the torn bicep tendon then one must answer the simple question…..Why?

His agent, Buss Cook says Favre is retired and will be staying that way. Really? ( by the way, is “Buss” short for something else like “Busbee, Buster, Bussophagus??? “ seriously, am I alone in my wonderment? )

Favre has a well known abhorrence, even phobic loathing of surgery. He discussed the possibility of rest and rehab, but the general thought in this case, is that this produces an unreliable timetable and thus might not be a worthy means of treatment.

Favre tried throwing a week and a half ago and had to stop due to pain after a dozen or so tosses. It seems clear the he will have to consider an operation. The procedure is fairly simple if doctors determined the injury is a partial tear to his tendon and nothing more invasive is necessary.

In a tenotomy, surgeons complete the tear of the biceps tendon – something that is not needed for a quarterback to throw – and relieve a lot of pain in the process.

Rehabilitation would take only six to eight weeks. If he has the surgery by the end of this week and has no complications or delays in rehabilitation, Favre could be throwing the football by mid July.

It is interesting to note that Favre is reported to be scheduled to meet today with noted orthopedist James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama.

The torn biceps tendon is one of several sources of pain in Favre’s shoulder, but could be the most correctable. If cutting the biceps tendon doesn’t eliminate the pain, Favre would have to consider whether other more complex surgical procedures are worth undergoing. That could hinder chances of him signing with the Vikings.

So, again I ask ….Why ? Taking into account Favre’s discomfort with the knife, then it seems only reasonable that Favre would consider this option for only one reason…….HE”S ATTEMPTING A COME BACK.

Sorry Buss, but I think it is reasonable to state the obvious conclusion. It makes sense. The Vikings want him, he wants to play for the Vikings. Now the only real question remaining is what is the extent of damage that Dr. Andrew’s will find when he opens Favre’s shoulder. The drama will continue!

    It’s time for Brett to say goodbye, but we’ll have to wince while watching him in pain this fall in Vikings land. Brad Childress will have to kiss his job goodbye.
