Watson hasn't realized his potential offensively (his hands are not reliable - he'll make a difficult catch and drop an easy one), but he's developed into a very good blocker. He's in the last year of his contract. If he starts, even in a rotation, I'd think he'd bring a 4th round comp pick. So why would the Pats trade him for a 5th rounder, while weakening their team? They could save a lot more in cap money by trading RT Nick Kaczur. If Vollmer shows that he could outplay Kaczur, the Pats would trade or release him and save about $1.8 mil.
