A 40-year-old quarterback is the guy that will help take the Minnesota Vikings to the next level?
Don’t hold your breath.
Brett Favre has had a brilliant career, spanning the better part of two decades, but seriously Favre, it is time to hang it up.
Favre, who has 464 career touchdown passes and more than 65,000 passing yards, will turn 40 in October.
With statistics like that he is sure to make the hall of fame. And what left does he have to prove?
He has a championship ring, owns more than 10 NFL records and has won the MVP award three times in his career. For now he will be considered one of the best QB’s of all-time.
I do believe that his stint with the New York Jets last year slightly tarnished his image, but if he returns to play for his former rival, the Vikings, I think that a lot of fans, specifically Green Bay Packers fans, will lose all respect for him.
Of course I do understand that the Vikings have limited resources at the QB position, but at this point, I do not think that Favres 40-year-old body will do much for them.
So as an NFL fan, I am asking Favre: Please stay retired, do not ruin our memory of you as a Green Bay Packer and Super Bowl champion. Please.
I keep reading articles such as this one and have to wonder who these writers think they are. Favre’s last season in GreenBay was 13-3 and then lost to the Giants in the playoffs in overtime. The Giants won the Superbowl by the way. How did Green Bay do the following year without Favre? With the Jets, Favre beat the Patriots, the Cardinals and the Titans. How many teams in the NFL can say that? He was injured at the end of the season. Should we retire ALL NFL players that suffer an injury ? The coach should have benched Favre for R&R and let him heal for the playoffs. He didn’t and he was fired. Everyone seems so Excited about Cassell and Cutler this year, Favre and the Jets beat Cassell didn’t they? Cassell and Cutler have never won a big game. I think the vikings will be ok with Sage, but Better with Brett. If Favre comes back and makes it to the playoffs, I think the antiv Favre writers should all retire.
What does it matter if he comes back? If he wants to play, and the Vikings think they have a better shot at a Superbowl with him than they do with Tavaris or Sage, then they should go for it.
People get so wrapped up in stupid stuff. Why should it matter if he plays somewhere else? I am a lifelong Packer fan and will have nothing against Brett if he signs with the Vikes. I’ll be rooting hard against him twice a year in that situation, but its just a freaking game people. Quit trying to turn these people into idols, they are just humans and they can do things that may or may not make sense.
If I have learned anything at all from Brett Favre’s unretirements, it is that there are way too many fans that take a game and players WAY too seriously.
let him play damit, he would have had a great year with the jets too if it were not for his arm problem late, and the jets defense letting down, no recievers, no running game late, no coaching, let him play, he is still better than most qb’s in the league at 39
Huge Brett fan and will continue to be a fan if he plays with our long-time rival Vikes. Brett has been The Packers for so many years, now they struggle with finding an identity. If #4′s QBing in MN, I’d rather see Brett do well than the Packers winning.
farve isn’t a huge deal reguardless but either way the vikes will do good. personally, i beleive a superbowl is possible considering we had decent qb’s last season, and this season with favre, we would own b/c he has total knowlege of the offence. opinion and fact. COME BACK BRETT PLZ!
I’m tired of the same old crap coming out of “sports writers” like this. If Favre wants to play, and there is a team that wants him to play, then why do you care. Stop telling him to retire! If he wants to play back-up quarter back in the league for the next 5 years, or become a team mascot, let him. Maybe someone should start writing articles about how “sports writers” like this guy should retire.
