Yes, the rumors of Brady Quinn being on the trading block for the Browns have reared their ugly head again, this time coming from the Plain Dealer and beat writer Tony Grossi. The report points out that a source told Grossi that the Browns did have two offers on the table for Quinn, but the team passed on both and there will be an open competition for the QB spot this summer.
Here’s the report from the PD on Quinn maybe getting shipped elsewhere:
I offer up this tidbit for the enjoyment of those who find the ongoing debate on the Browns quarterback situation to be insatiable.
I recently spoke with someone I will identify as a league source. This person does not work for an NFL team but works with NFL teams and has a prominent name.
I asked, “Whom do you think will wind up starting at quarterback for the Browns?”
Without hesitation, the answer was, “Brady Quinn.”
The person went on to say that the Browns had two “very subtantial” trade offers for Quinn — each involved a No. 1 draft pick — and declined to trade him.
The source would not speculate on whether a trade of Quinn might have been blocked by owner Randy Lerner. The source believes that there will be a true “open competition” between Quinn and Derek Anderson and that Quinn will prevail.
The source does not believe that newly acquired ex-Jet Brett Ratliff will be thrown into the open competition. The source’s take on Ratliff: “Eric Mangini likes having him around because he feels comfortable with him and he knows the offense.”
The rumor of Quinn being on the block has been out there for sometime, and many still feel to this day that the team will not have two quality starting QB’s – Derek Anderson and Quinn on the roster come the start of the season. Could Quinn still be moved? Sure, but at the same time, it seems more likely that both QB’s will be around and ready to fight it out to be the opening day starter.

i would trade quinn for no less than 2 number 1s and da for no less than a 1 and conditional pick because of both of their huge upsides same with braylon no less than a 1 and a good young player and on a side note
i want to be the first person to say it mangini “WILL” be the savior of cleveland browns football mark my words
I APPLAUD EVERY MOVE SO FAR GREAT START MANKOK KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Forget about the open competition we have done that we know DAs faults: Streakey, slow at reading recievers, interceptions and fumbles. Start Quinn and leave him in for thiis season. Then assess the result. Ralbrown
