Now that the Cardinals have a running back who they think will be their star ball carrier of the future in Chris Wells, the future seems pretty much set for current running back Edgerrin James. He’ll be free to go elsewhere. The Arizona Republic reports that the Cardinals likely will release James this week.
Word is the team wanted to make sure they got their man in Wells, and once he fell to them with the 31st pick and they were able to secure him, having James on the roster to the team is pretty much a waste. The team took another back – LaRod Stephens-Howling in the seventh. Currently the club now has five backs on the roster, excluding James.
Look for James to be a free man by the weekend, when the Cards hold a mini-camp.
