The Bills defense was better in 2008 than it was in 2007, moving up from 31st to 14th, and a big reason why was the solid play of DT Marcus Stroud.
Because of Stroud’s play, the Bills are giving him a new deal, as his agent reports he’s signed a two-year extension worth potentially worth $16.5 million.
Drew Rosenhaus, Stroud’s agent, told the AP that his client has signed an extension that includes $12 million in guaranteed money. Stroud was acquired in a trade with the Jaguars last offseason.
The eight-year veteran and 2001 first-round draft pick could earn up to $28 million over the next four years should he achieve all bonuses.
“Marcus has agreed, but we’re awaiting the return of the official contract,” Bills spokesman Scott Berchtold said in an e-mail. “Per team policy, we do not release the terms of the contract.”
Stroud was a Pro Bowl alternate in 2008, and finished fourth on the Bills with 85 tackles, registered 2 1/2 sacks, recovered two fumbles and forced one fumble.
