With what might be a tip of the hat, Billy Devaney was reportedly impressed with Virginia OT Eugene Monroe’s pro day. The Rams, as reported by Jim Thomas, apparently like Monroe better then Jason Smith.
That being noted, Devaney had this to say about Eugene Monroe:
“It was impressive,” he said, “He’s really a good guy, and he’s going to be a really good player.”
While you can take that as such, for a GM who is looking at drafting a tackle, and talking about a player they reportedly like very much, it seems like it may be a little more. You don’t just tell the press that you think he’s impressive, that he is a good person and that he’s going to be a very good player. Conventional wisdom says the Rams will draft a tackle, at the very least to play RT (Jacob Bell? No thanks) while Barron plays LT.
Keep in mind that this doesn’t mean it’s a done deal- the Rams still are holding private workouts for many other top prospects.
