Pick # 1 Detroit Lions OT Eugene Monroe Virginia Jr. 6-6 315

A tough decision is made by the Lions front office on whether to take the player with the most upside in Matthew Stafford or play it safe with a offensive lineman. In the end there are too many holes for the Lions to go with a QB.

Pick # 2 St. Louis Rams OT Jason Smith Baylor Sr. 6-5 305

With so much money invested in Marc Bulger the Rams cannot afford the thought of picking Stafford and with the release of Orlando Pace, Jason Smith becomes the logical selection with Aaron Curry also a possibility.

Pick # 3 Kansas City Chiefs OLB Aaron Curry Wake Forest Sr. 6-3 247

The Chiefs can’t lose with this pick if the Lions take Matt Stafford or a lineman then the Chiefs are guaranteed Curry. If the Lions pick Curry then the Chiefs have a starting tackle fall in their lap or they could trade the pick to a team that wants Matt Stafford.

Pick # 4 Seattle Seahawks QB Matthew Stafford Georgia Jr. 6-3 228

Michael Crabtree had been penciled into this spot for months but with the addition of T.J. Houshmandzadeh and the declining play of QB Matt Hasselbeck new coach Jim Mora Jr. may select his QB of the future with this pick.

Pick # 5 Cleveland Browns DE/LB Brian Orakpo Texas Sr. 6-4 260

The Browns have been held back by their defense over the past couple of seasons and seriously lack impact players on that side of the ball. Orakpo will bring athleticism to a Cleveland Browns defense that desperately needs the injection of youth a talent.

Pick # 6 Cincinnati Bengals WR Michael Crabtree Texas Tech So. 6-3 214

The loss of T.J. Houshmandzadeh hurts a already dysfunctional Bengals team but the pick of Crabtree can ease QB Carson Palmer’s fears of having only one target in the passing game. The Bengals may have got the steal of the draft with this pick.

Pick # 7 Oakland Raiders OT Andre Smith Alabama Jr. 6-4 330

Andre Smith had top five potential until he had off the field issues, skipped out on the combne and performed poorly at his pro day. Former offensive line coach Tom Cable will fal in love with Smith’s potential and Al Davis will fall in love with the character issues.

Pick # 8 Jacksonville Jaguars DT B.J. Raji Boston College Sr. 6-1 323

Last year the Jaguars drafted two defensive ends with their first two picks this season the Jaguars will strengthen the interior of the D-line. Raji brings the size and toughness that Jack Del Rio loves and has the potential to anchor a D-line for ten years.

Pick # 9 Green Bay Packers DE/LB Everette Brown Florida State Sr. 6-4 252

Brown helps make the conversion to the 3-4 defense a little bit easier for the Packers who are ecstatic a player with his potential fell to them with the # 9 pick. With aging cornerbacks Malcolm Jenkins is also a possibility for the PACKERS.

Pick # 10 San Francisco 49ers QB Mark Sanchez USC Jr. 6-3 225

Shaun Hill and Alex Smith are not the long term answers at QB and coach Mike Singletary undoubtedly wants to eventually get his own guy at the helm. Nobody place to start looking for a QB than USC who currently have 4 QB’s in the league 3 of which have been starters.

Pick # 11 Buffalo Bills CB Malcolm Jenkins Ohio State Sr. 6-1 201

With no glaring needs the Bills have the luxury of sitting back and getting the best cover corner in the draft. Jenkins could play safety in the NFL and has a ball hawk mentality like a poor man’s Ed Reed.

Pick # 12 Denver Broncos DE Aaron Maybin Penn State So. 6-3½ 250

Maybin is a solid prospect and the Broncos defensive line underperformed last season. Cornerback is also a need but with Jenkins off the board the Broncos are forced to settle.

Pick # 13 Washington Redskins LB Rey Maualuga USC Sr. 6-2 260

It would kind of be a waste to give a DT 100 million if your not going to put a MLB behind him that can eat up ball carriers, Rey can do just that and teams should not plan on running the ball on the Skins in 09.

Pick # 14 New Orleans Saints CB Vontae Davis Illinois Jr. 6-0 204

Every year the Saints sign and draft defensive backs like their going out of style and still cannot fix the gaping holes in the secondary. Davis continues the trend of throwing numbers at the problem.

Pick # 15 Houston Texas WR Jeremy Maclin Missouri So. 6-1 200

The Texans have the # 1 receiver in Andre Johnson but Mackilin brings serious speed to the offense and adds a wrinkle to the offense to keep defenses honest.

Pick # 16 San Diego Chargers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey Maryland Jr. 6-3 206

Bey goes this high because of his 4.3 combine time and could do some real damage in a offense with so many other stars that defenses could lose track of him.

Pick # 17 New York Jets LB Clay Matthews USC Sr. 6-3 240

This pick is right up new coach Rex Ryan alley Mathews is a tough hard nose player and Ryan has a way of getting the most out of his LB’s.

Pick # 18 Chicago Bears OT Eben Britton Arizona Jr. 6-6 309

John Tait retired forcing the Bears to take a tackle with their first pick for the second year in row.

Pick # 19 Tampa Bay Buccaneers DT Peria Jerry Ole Miss Sr. 6-2 300

The Bucs are rebuilding and have so many holes they will be taking the best overall talent regardless of position throughout the draft.

Pick # 20 Detroit Lions WR/RB Percy Harvin Florida Jr. 5-11 195

With their second pick in the first round the Lions continue to build around Daunte Culpepper bringing in Harvin who adds a dimension to offense the Lions have been lacking.

Pick # 21 Philadelphia Eagles DT Evander Hood Missouri Sr. 6-3 300

In typical Eagles fashion they ignore McNabb’s pleads for offensive help and select a defensive player.

Pick # 22 Minnesota Vikings WR Hakeem Nicks North Carolina Jr. 6-2 210

Failing to bring in a big name receiver in free agency the Vikings go with the best pass catcher on the board.

Pick # 23 New England Patriots DE-OLB Larry English Northern Illinois Sr. 6-2 255

Nothing new for the Patriots, lose players in free agency replace them in the draft, win Super Bowls.

Pick # 24 Atlanta Falcons OLB Clint Sintim Virginia Sr. 6-3 256

Last year the Falcons found Michael Turner, Harry Douglas and Matt Ryan on offense this year they can afford to go defense.

Pick # 25 Miami Dolphins OLB Brian Cushing USC Sr. 6-3 255

After last years record breaking turn around the Dolphins continue to add to a stout defense with the selection of Cushing.

Pick # 26 Baltimore Ravens LB James Laurinaitis Ohio State Sr. 6-3 240

After losing Bart Scott in free agency the Ravens find some relief thru the draft, Laurinaitis should fit in perfectly in Baltimore next to Ray Lewis.

Pick # 27 Indianapolis Colts RB Donald Brown UConn Jr. 5-10 210

Joesph Addai is a special player but Brown becomes a nice insurance policy.

Pick # 28 Philadelphia Eagles RB Knowshon Moreno Georgia Jr. 5-11 207

The Eagles appease McNabb and replace Correl Buckhalter all with one pick albeit their second pick in the first round.

Pick # 29 New York Giants OT William Beatty Connecticut Sr. 6-6 307

The Giants need a receiver but don’t want to reach in the first round Beatty becomes the best over all talent or possibly Michael Oher.

Pick # 30 Tennessee Titans WR Kenny Britt Rutgers Jr. 6-4 215

Whether it’s Kerry Collins or Vince Young at QB the Titans still need to find them some weapons in the passing game.

Pick # 31 Arizona Cardinals DE Robert Ayers Tennessee Sr. 6-3 272

With the loss of Antonio Smith this becomes a quick fix for the Cardinals.

Pick # 32 Pittsburg Steelers CB D.J. Moore Vanderbilt Jr. 5-10 182

No team drafts better period. That is why the Steelers pick last in the first round.
