Good news on the free agent front for the Steelers, as guard Chris Kemoeatu and the team came to terms today on a deal that will pay him $20 million over the next five years according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Reports came out Friday in the NY Daily News that the Jets were looking at Kemoeatu, but reports are that deal was about for the same amount that the Steelers were offering, and he decided to stay with the Black and Gold.
“Obviously, he’s very happy,” said his agent, Ken Vierra. “The Jets were extremely aggressive and professional. At the end of the day, it was an opportunity to win another Super Bowl and stay with his teammates, along with a good, aggressive, solid offer from the Steelers. That was enough to keep him there.”
Kemoeatu became a starter last season when Alan Faneca left to sign with the Jets. He was the teams sixth round pick in the 2005 draft.
Kemoeatu will receive a $3.885 million signing bonus as part of his new contract with the Steelers.
