Safety Dawkins Bolts Philly to Sign w/ Denver
Posted by Matt Loede under 2009 Free Agency, Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles

Following up on a story from earlier today, it looks like safety Brian Dawkins will not be wearing an Eagles uniform in 2009, and instead will be in Denver.
According to a report in the San Francisco Gate, the Broncos are planning a news conference on Saturday to introduce “Weapon X” after coming to terms with him on a deal.
Dawkins had been with Philly for the previous 13 seasons, the franchise that made him its second-round draft choice out of Clemson in 1996.
He’ll turn 36 in October of the upcoming season, but has gas in the tank and has been selected to the Pro Bowl seven times in his distinguished career. He has played all 16 games in three of the past four years, including a 75 tackle, three-sack campaign in 2008.
In 183 career games, Dawkins has picked off 34 passes while compiling 21 sacks and 936 tackles. It’s a huge hit for the Eagles to lose Dawkins, as they felt they would have the shot to bring Dawkins back even after he hit the free agent market at midnight.
The Broncos cleared up a ton of cap space last week, and had an active first day of free agency, signing two running backs, a long snapper, and now Dawkins.
