The Raiders started their roster shakup the other day with some releases. One name that remains on the roster for now, but maybe not for long is wide out Javon Walker. Adam Schefter of NFL.com reported today that Walker could be the next out the door for the club:

Last offseason, Oakland spent millions to sign CB DeAngelo Hall, S Gibril Wilson and WR Javon Walker.

Already, Hall and Wilson have been jettisoned — Hall cut during the season, and Wilson cut after it. Now, Walker could be next.

Walker is due a $5 million bonus payment March 3. It is likely that the Raiders would rather release him than pay it. Thus, for the second straight offseason, an AFC West team is likely to release Walker.

If and when the Raiders release Walker, he will count against their salary cap for an eye-popping $14.16 million. It is a huge number to absorb, but the Raiders believe it is the right move to make.

Fortunately for the Raiders, they succeeded in retaining some of their own players this offseason, keeping both CB Nnamdi Asomugha and P Shane Lechler. Unfortunately for the Raiders, the curtain is coming down on their failed free-agent class of 2008.

Walker has been a loose cannon for the club, and last season was a non-factor, playing in 8 games, putting up 15 catches for 196 yards and one TD. Looks like Walker won’t be in the Silver and Black much longer.

how come A.D. keeps getting himself into these situations…I thought he was a business man..I could do better than that. Oakland has the talent on the team it has.. why do you keep pulling these guys from other teams that are hurt and banged-up that do nothing for the team…come on A.D. and I call him that because you don’t deserve to be called Mr. Davis…get O-Line help for J.R. defensive line help to stop the run…then worry about filling in the dots…just tired of not being competetive…aren’t you

“Loose cannon” is a bit of an understatement.
